「冬の運動会」というこの絵のタイトルは向田邦子の小説から借用したものだ。私の場合、先に題名があってそれに触発されて絵ができるということはままある。また反対に絵が完成して、その題名をつけるために映画や小説や、詩集から言葉の断片を拾い集めてつけることもある。極端なことを言えば、タイトルにその絵の主題が現れるようにも思い、大事な要素だと思っている。
The title of this painting, Winter Sports Day, is borrowed from a novel by Kuniko Mukoda. In my case, it is often the case that I have a title in mind first, which inspires me to create a painting. Conversely, sometimes, after I have completed a painting, I collect fragments of words from films, novels or poetry collections in order to give it a title. In extreme cases, I think that the subject of the painting appears in the title, and I consider it to be an important element.
