The exhibition “Forest Bathing at the Museum” at Otani Memorial Museum of Art, Nishinomiya
“Etsuko Kawamura (b. 1953) studied Western painting at Kyoto City University of Arts. She continues to explore the possibilities of oil painting techniques rooted in Western tradition by earnestly observing familiar landscapes and nature, and meticulously rendering them. Overlapping Branches and Leaves Covering the Entire Canvas (Tree Shade) takes as its motif a hedge seen along a Kyoto roadside, depicting the wildly flourishing grasses in a corner of the roadside at nearly life-size. (Into the Thicket) depicts a scene observed in Denmark. The resilient forms of plants quietly thriving in the corners of towns serve as one source of inspiration for Kawamura.”
