“Sacred World” is literally a place full of clean light where hermits dwell, away from the mundane world. But for me, it is a place where one can look at the trees and flowers along the path and take a deep breath, where one’s back is involuntarily straightened by the grace of a straight line of kakitsubata and where, although the scenery is quite ordinary, just being there opens one’s eyes and awakens the joy of living. It is a place that evokes the joy of life in me. I hoped to create such a space in my paintings.
